Ajith Jayasekera awards tender to relative in violation of tender procedure
Sri Lanka Cricket Additional CEO Ajith Jayasekera it is learnt has handed over construction work at the Pallekele and Kettarama cricket stadiums to one of his relatives, S. Panangala, in violation of normal tender procedures.
It is learnt that Ajith Jayasekera calls for, open and award tenders on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket. He is also said to receive 10% of the tender as a commission.
He has reportedly given employment at Sri Lanka Cricket to about 17 of his Air Force friends and colleagues.
Meanwhile, it has already been confirmed that the John Deer turf cutters and tractors imported by him for Sri Lanka Cricket spending Rs. 17 million are ones that are used in golf courses.
The fraud was revealed when the turf cutters and tractors that were handed over to schools were returned by the respective schools to Sri Lanka Cricket.
Jayasekera has allegedly received a commission amounting to several millions when importing the turf cutters and tractors.
An attempt by him to hand over the transport, lodging and meals of the Indian cricket team that is due to tour Sri Lanka in July and August to persons out of the normal tender procedure has been already been revealed.
It is learnt that Ajith Jaaysekera has been accused of swindling Rs. 65 lakhs in the project to construct the Surrey Village wall.
Jayasekera has also accepted an award last year by the ICC given to people who have worked voluntarily for the sustenance of cricket in the country.
However, it is now being discussed among members in the cricket field that Jayasekera has todate not done anything voluntarily.
Jayasekera is being paid Rs. 2 lakhs as a salary for holding the post of Additional CEO at Sri Lanka Cricket and is also provided with an official vehicle with unlimited fuel and a mobile phone footed by the institution.
