Solas Marine starts boat manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka
Solas Marine Lanka Ltd this week started production of small sailboats and runabouts at a new manufacturing facility in Wattala, Sri Lanka. The company has a workforce of 60.
According to The company, Solas Marine Service, a Dubai-based company, entered into a US$1.5m agreement with Sri Lanka's Board of Investment to create the manufacturing facility and hire the workers.
Managing director Prashanth Kamath told the paper that the company is building to international standards, including ISO 9001:2009 standards. Beyond recreational boats, the company has plans to build crew boats, patrol boats and inter-island boats.
Kamath expects the workforce to expand as demand for its products increase.
